Shane Shanahan

Shane Shanahan (* 1972 ) is an American percussionist.

Shanahan studied percussion at the Eastman School of Music and the Hartt School at the University of Hartford . While traveling through Turkey, India and Tajikistan, he got to know the traditional music of these countries. In 2000 he became a member of Yo-Yo Mas Silk Road Ensemble . He participated in the ensemble's worldwide tours and appeared on their albums When Strangers Meet , Beyond the Horizon , New Impossibilities and Off the Map .

Shanahan is also a member of Glen Velez ' Frame Drum Ensemble and Maya Beiser's group Provenance and has performed with musicians such as Philip Glass , Alison Krause , Sonny Fortune , Chaka Khan , GE Smith , Simon Shaheen , Jamey Haddad , Cyro Baptista , Anindo Chaterjee , Sandeep Das , Shahram and Hafez Nazeri , Alim Qasimov , Howard Levy and Steve Gornon. He has given workshops at Harvard University , Northwestern University , New York University , the University of California at Santa Barbara, and the Rhode Island School of Design .

As Artist in Residence at the Hartt School , he taught percussion in 2006 and performed a concert with students with his own compositions. He also designed and played programs at the Art Institute of Chicago , the Japanese National Museums in Kyushu and Nara, the British Library in London, the Rietberg Museum in Zurich and the Ruben Museum of Art in New York. He had television appearances a. a. on the Late Show with David Letterman and Good Morning America .
