Sandeep Das (* 1970 in Patna ) is an Indian tabla player .

After attending Patna College and Patna University Further, Das studied at Banaras Hindu University , where he received a gold medal in English literature. The pupil of the tabla master Kishan Maharaj began to play tabla at the age of eight and already performed with the folk singer Bill Crofut in India a year later . At the age of sixteen he worked with Ravi Shankar and performed with Indian musicians such as Amjad Ali Khan , Shiv Kumar Sharma , Hari Prasad Chaurasia , L. Subramaniam and Shujaat Khan .

On his first trip to the west, Das performed with steel drum bands in Trinidad. Since 2000 he has been a member of Yo-Yo Mas Silk Road Ensemble with which he a. a. has performed at Carnegie Hall , Lincoln Center , Royce Hall , Concertgebouw , Queen Elizabeth Hall , Hollywood Bowl and Petronas Tower Hall in Malaysia. He also leads the HumEnsemble with the flautist Rajesh Prasanna , the percussionist Suchet Malhotra , the guitarist Ahsaan Ali , the keyboardist Indrajit Dey and the singer Lavanya Sundaram . In total, his discography includes more than thirty albums.

In 2001 he performed a composition by Kayhan Kalhor with the New York Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Kurt Masur . In 2004 and 2009 he performed at the Proms at the Royal Albert Hall . An album with Kayhan Kalhor and Shujaat Khan received a Grammy nomination in 2005 , the album Off the Map was nominated for a Grammy for Best Classical Crossover Album in 2010 . The ' Shristi ' composition premiered at Carnegie Hall in 2006. In 2008 he performed at United Nations Day at the UN headquarters.
