Kind Zoyd

Art Zoyd are a French avant-garde music group. They were founded in 1968 in Maubeuge , France and are still active today. The music style of the group ranges between experimental new music , free jazz and progressive rock .

Band history

The group was founded in 1968 by Rocco Fernandez and had 30 different members by 1979. In 1971 Gérard Hourbette and Thierry Zaboïtzeff became members of the group. In 1975 the group was renamed Art Zoyd 3, as more and more members from different bands joined Art Zoyd. They played under this name as the opening act for Magma and released their debut album Symphonie pour le jour ou bruleront les cites (1976) under this name. Then the band paused for three years due to changing line-ups and personal problems and called themselves Art Zoyd again.

After releasing their third album, Art Zoyd toured Europe in the 1980s. Soundtracks to silent films from the 1920s, for example by Friedrich Murnau and Benjamin Christensen, have played a key role in Art Zoyd's work . Other albums contain music for ballet performances and theater festivals.

In 2015 Art Zoyd celebrated the 44½-year existence of the band for the first time at the Rock in Opposition Festival in Carmaux, where they played a retrospective of their work in a two-hour concert. From the original line-up from 1976, Thierry Zaboïtzeff and Jean-Pierre Soarez were back on stage, as were Daniel Denis from Univers Zéro .
