Kevin Ray (jazz musician)

Kevin Ray (* around 1975 ) is an American jazz musician ( double bass ) of the Modern Creative .

Ray graduated from the New School with a bachelor's degree with Reggie Workman ; He studied classical techniques with Joe Bongiorno. He worked on the American East Coast jazz scene with John Stubblefield , Oliver Lake , Greg Osby , Andrew Hill , Marty Ehrlich and John Hicks . The first recordings were made in 2012 with Allen Lowe ( Mulatto Radio - Field Recordings 1–4 , with Randy Sandke , Ken Peplowski and Lewis Porter , among others ).

Since that year he has played in the trio 1032K with Frank Lacy and Andrew Drury , which presented the album That Which Is Planted (2013), and in the quartet of Elliott Sharp & JD Parran (also with Drury). Then he worked in the collaborative quartet with Matthew Shipp , Allen Lowe and Gerald Cleaver .

In 2018 he belonged to the Freedom Art Quartet with Darius Jones , Omar Kabir (trumpet) and Lloyd Haber (saxophone) , with which the album Spirits Awake was created.

The jazz musician Kevin Ray should not be confused with the indie rock bass guitarist of the same name (* 1986).
