Travis Laplante

Travis Laplante is an American rock and jazz musician ( saxophone , keyboard ) and composer .

Laplante had a trio with Michael Formanek and Gerald Cleaver in the early 2000s ; he was also a member of the underground rock bands Extra Life and Skeletons . Laplante worked during his career a. a. with Anthony Braxton , Mark Dresser , Mat Maneri , Trevor Dunn , Peter Evans , Matt Wilson , David Liebman , Dennis González and George Garzone . He was with Darius Jones co-leader of the formation Little Women , with whom he presented an album for AUM Fidelity after a first EP . In 2017 he played in a quartet with Ingrid Laubrock , Tom Rainey and Randy Peterson , in 2018 in a duo with Gerald Cleaver. In 2012 he recorded the album Heart Protector with his own compositions under his own name . Laplante lives in Brooklyn .

In the New York Times, Nate Chinen praised Laplantes " tremendous technical control [...], splinterng notes as if through a prism, using circular-breathing for purposes of hypnotism. "
