Richard Boone (musician)

Richard Boone (born February 24, 1930 in Little Rock , Arkansas , † February 10, 1999 in Copenhagen ) was an American jazz musician (trombone, vocals).

Leen and work

Boone sang in a Baptist church choir when he was five ; at twelve he played the trombone in the school band. At sixteen, he won second prize in a talent competition and spent a month touring with Lucky Millinder . After serving in the Army, he spent several years in Germany and France from 1948 before studying music at Philander Smith College in Little Rock in 1953 . He then went to Los Angeles in 1958 as a studio and club musician, first as a singer, then as a trombonist. He worked u. a. with Sonny Criss , Gerald Wilson , Dolo Coker , several times with Dexter Gordon (1960 and 1975), with Della Reese (1962–66 on tour) and with Count Basie (1966–69), with whom he humorous blues scat and vocals Association. During this time he also appeared with his own band, in which he appeared with blues, scat and yodel singing. From 1970 he stayed frequently in Denmark and worked there a. a. in big band projects by Ernie Wilkins , Thad Jones and the Danish Radio Bagband . In 1990 he was a guest for three weeks with European musicians in a club in Nairobi ; that same year he recorded with Elly Wright . On his album A Tribute of Love (1996/98) he can also be heard with Katrine Madsen .
