Katrine Madsen

Katrine Madsen (born March 7, 1972 in Aarhus ) is a Danish jazz singer and composer .

life and career

Madsen initially studied at Det Jyske Music Conservatory of the Royal Academy of Music. With her own swing quintet , she released her debut album in 1996. Then she worked in Copenhagen with musicians like Ed Thigpen and Richard Boone ( A Tribute of Love ). In 2002 she founded the Katrine Madsen Sextet . For the album Box of Pearls , which introduces the well-known standards of the Great American Songbook , she sang in a team with her Swedish colleague Svante Thuresson . She also worked with the Baker Boys ( Gershwin & More 2002) and with Povo .

Prizes and awards

Madsen received a two-year composition grant from the Danish Art Fund. She is also an honorary member of the Philippine Musicians Union. The albums Close to You and Box of Pearls were nominated for the Danish Music Prize in 2005 and 2006.
