Lars Møller

Lars Møller (* 1966 in Copenhagen ) is a Danish jazz musician ( tenor saxophone , composition ) and conductor .

Live and act

Møller studied with Dave Liebman and from 1987 to 1989 at the New School . His love of Indian classical music led him to New Delhi several times for a long period between 1989 and 1993 . Between 1996 and 1998 he took part in various workshops by Bob Brookmeyer . As a band leader, he recorded with musicians such as Jimmy Cobb , Niels-Henning Ørsted Pedersen , Thomas Clausen ( Copenhagen Groove , 1989), Geri Allen , Buster Williams , Billy Hart ( Jaspar Concerts 2003 ) and John Abercrombie from the late 1980s . He also played with musicians such as Hermeto Pascoal , Jon Balke , Bobo Stenson , Martial Solal , Maria Schneider , Tom Harrell , Katrine Madsen , the Sound of Choice Ensemble and, between 2005 and 2009, the Danish Saxophone Quartet . For many years he has been the musical director of the big band The Orchestra in Copenhagen, with whom he has recorded several albums. He has worked with the DR Big Band both as a soloist and as a conductor . He also wrote for other European radio big bands, the Federal Jazz Orchestra and the Cologne Big Band . In 2008 he founded a new quartet with guitarist Thor Madsen as well as Robert Landfermann and Jonas Burgwinkel ; in his compositions for this combo he combines Indian quarter tones with the American and European jazz tradition ( Phobia , 2010). In 2012 he followed Jens Klüver as director of the Aarhus Jazz Orchestra , with whom he recorded several albums.

Prizes and awards

In 1998 he received an honorary award from the Danish Jazz, Beat and Folk Composers Society . In 2000 he was honored with the JASA Award . He was honored for the best big band compositions at the International Jazz Composers' Symposium 2008.
