Jens Klüver (born October 1, 1948 in Copenhagen ) is a Danish jazz musician ( clarinet , tenor saxophone ) who has emerged as an orchestra leader.

Live and act

Klüver grew up in Fredericia . As a teenager he was enthusiastic about jazz when he heard traditional jazz on Radio Luxemburg . First he played the clarinet and then the saxophone. The first public appearance came when he was doing his military service in the telecommunications unit in Aarhus, where he played in the regimental orchestra. In 1970 he began his studies at the Musicological Institute of Aarhus University ; In 1973 he was accepted into the Royal Danish Academy of Music , where he graduated as a clarinetist. Then he taught at the music school in Aarhus, whose big band he founded in 1976.

In 1977 he also founded Klüvers Big Band in Aarhus , which he developed into a professional orchestra and which he directed until 2012. Klüver also played in his own quartet and in various groups such as Krogsbæk, Tusind og En Watt, Falkum Five, Cue, Århus Syncopaterne, Jazzrationen, Verners Workshop, Blues Pickin, Rubens Radio, Tintiana, Randers Byorkester, and with Esben Tjalve. He also worked as a conductor for amateur big bands in Sønderborg, Aalborg, Aarhus, Torshavn and for Vejle Amts Ungdoms Big Band . Since 1998 he has also organized the Aarhus Jazz Festival ; he was also chairman of the local jazz and rock musicians' association.

Prizes and awards

Klüver was given the local gaff prize in 1982 . In 2002 he was awarded the Ben Webster Prize as a band leader . In 2009 he received the Dansk Kapelmester Forbunds Hæderspris and in 2012 the DMF Hæderspris.
