Jesper Bodilsen (born January 5, 1970 in Aarhus ) is a Danish double bass player and composer of modern jazz who, as an instrumentalist, is placed in a direct row with Niels-Henning Ørsted Pedersen , Palle and Lars Danielsson and Arild Andersen . His compositions are also characterized by “clarity and undisguised emotionality”.

Live and act

Bodilsen learned the trumpet from the age of eight. At the age of 14 he switched to the bass guitar . From 1991 to 1997 he studied in Aarhus ; he is a student of Niels-Henning Ørsted Pedersen. In 1995 he became a member of Erling Kroner's Dream Quartet . Since the late 1990s he has worked regularly with Ed Thigpen , with whom he recorded several albums and accompanied guest musicians such as Duke Jordan , Benny Golson , Lee Konitz and Phil Woods . In addition, he worked a. a. with the trumpeter Enrico Rava and recorded with Kasper Villaume , Stefano Bollani and Katrine Madsen . He leads his own trio, which includes the Italian pianist Stefano Bollani and the drummer Morten Lund . In 2002 he founded a music production for which he produced more than 15 albums. With George Colligan he played a duo album.

Prizes and awards

In 2004 he was awarded a Django d'Or as "Contemporary Star of Jazz".
