Voodoo gang

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Voodoo Gang is a group of musicians from different countries around Jean Férouze Darouiche (also called Djo), who works as the band's composer, guitarist and singer. The singer Nera Nariman has also been part of the band since the early 1990s . Felix Occhionero joined the group in 1992 as bassist. Since 1993 Jan Kahlert (ex- Amon Düül ) has kept the rhythm in the Voodoo Gang.

Djo Darouiche founded the Voodoo Gang in 1983 with his brothers Pasha and Biboul Darouiche , with whom he soon appeared all over Europe. In 1986 they received a prize for "Best Ethno-Jazz Recording" for the Enja production "The Return of the Turtle". In 1984 "Elephants Wedding" was published. The voodoo gang toured until they broke up in the late 1980s.

The re-establishment took place in the early 1990s. With the current line-up since 1993, a small Munich label released the production "Couleur Café" in 2008, on which the jazz saxophonist Simon Spang-Hanssen also participates.
