Emil Spanyi

Emil Spányi (born June 14, 1968 in Budapest ) is a Hungarian modern jazz musician ( piano , composition ).

Live and act

Spányi received classical piano training at the Béla Bartók Conservatory in his hometown, which was followed by studies at the Franz Liszt Academy . Then he specialized in the jazz piano , which he studied with distinction at the University of Music and Performing Arts Graz . Between 1996 and 1999 he deepened his studies at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique et de Danse de Paris , where he graduated with a first prize.

He played with Mark Murphy , Lee Harper , Allan Praskin , Carl Drewo , Bob Berg , Ed Thigpen , Ray Brown , Philip Catherine , Clark Terry , François Jeanneau and Darko Jurković , among others . With Felix Sabal-Lecco, Simon Spang-Hanssen and Linley Marthe , he founded the afro-jazz quartet Eer Witness in 2001 . With the saxophonist Christophe Monniot he formed the duo Ozone . He teaches piano and harmony at the jazz departments of the Paris Regional Conservatory and the Lausanne Music Academy.

Prizes and awards

He was awarded first prize at the jazz competitions in Vienna and Avignon.
