Darko "Charlie" Jurković (born April 20, 1965 in Rijeka ) is a Croatian jazz guitarist .

Live and act

Jurković initially received a classical music education on the violin before he became interested in jazz and the guitar at the age of 15. Influenced by Pat Metheny , John Scofield and above all Stanley Jordan , he dedicated himself to this instrument. Similar to Jordan, he began to produce notes on the instrument with both hands; He has mastered this technique of two-hand tapping completely, so that he can play melody and bass on two guitars at the same time. Until 1997 he studied at the Graz University of Music and Performing Arts with Harry Pepl in order to graduate with a master's degree.

Then he worked in the Kvartet Sensitive , in the Europlane Orchestra and in the band of Boško Petrović , also with Emil Spányi and Gino Comisso, but also in the trio of František Uhlíř (including live recordings with Dusko Goykovich ). Under his own name he made three albums and two as co-leaders. He toured not only through Central Europe, France and Turkey, but also in South America.

Prizes and awards

Jurković was honored with the Croatian Music Union's award for the best jazz guitarist in 2000, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2006, 2007 and 2008; he also won the Porin Prize .
