František Uhlíř
František Uhlíř (* 24. July 1950 in Ústí nad Orlicí ) is a Czech double bassist of the Modern Jazz .
Life
Uhlíř, who comes from a musical family and whose father led a jazz band as a pianist, began taking piano lessons at the music school when he was five. He then switched to the trombone and finally switched to the double bass at the age of thirteen . From the age of fifteen he attended the Conservatory in Brno , where he completed his studies in 1971. In essence, he first played in the Moravian Chamber Orchestra, then for a year in the Brno Philharmonic and at the Brno Opera; and he also appeared as a bassist in the group of his father, Swing Q on. He then did his military service in the army ensemble in Prague, where he met Emil Viklický , with whom he took part in various amateur jazz festivals. He was also a member of Luděk Hulan's jazz sanatorium . From 1975 he belonged to the group SHQ of Karel Velebný , but also accompanied the Linha Singers (a Czech equivalent of the Swingle Singers ), and was a founding member of the Baroque Jazz Quintet . He also played jazz rock with Michael Gera in the group Impuls and then belonged to the group of Jiří Stivín and the band of Sid Kucera .
Since 1987 he has been the head of his František Uhlíř team , with whom he also tours abroad and presents himself at numerous European festivals. He regularly performs at the “Jazz na Hradě” (Jazz in the Castle) events at Prague Castle . He is also part of Emil Viklický's trio. He played with musicians as diverse as Dave Weckl , Franco Ambrosetti , Benny Bailey , Scott Robinson , Rudy Linka , Hendrik Meurkens , Barbara Dennerlein , Roberto Magris , Dejan Terzic , Gilad Atzmon , Stefanie Schlesinger or Ines Reiger .
