Rudy Linka (* 29. May 1960 in Prague ) is a Czech - American guitarist of modern jazz .

Live and act

Linka studied classical guitar at the Prague Conservatory and came to jazz through Karel Velebný . In 1979 he first emigrated to Germany before living in Sweden from 1980. There he continued his studies and often performed with Red Mitchell . Mediated through this, he moved to Berklee College of Music in 1984, before moving to New York City in 1985 and continuing his education with John Abercrombie and Jim Hall from 1986 . Abercrombie was also featured on his debut album. As a duo with George Mraz and with his own groups, he appeared at international festivals (Prague 1991, 1993), Sheppholms (1992) from the beginning of the 1990s. He also played with Bob Mintzer , Michael Formanek , Gil Goldstein , Miles Evans and Adam Nussbaum .

He has also taught at Berklee College and the Milwaukee Conservatory .

In addition, Linka is the founder and artistic director of the Bohemia Jazz Fest , a traveling jazz festival that has been taking place annually in various Czech cities since 2005.
