Aase of birch trees
Åse Birkenheier (born December 3, 1944 in Tresfjord , Møre og Romsdal , Norway ) is a Norwegian-German translator . From 2010 to 2016 she was the 1st chairwoman of the German-Norwegian Society e. V., Bonn.
School, study
After attending primary school in Tresfjord, secondary school in Vestnes and grammar school in Molde , she graduated from high school in 1964 . From 1965 to 1968 she studied German and English at the University of Oslo (UiO) and graduated with a teaching degree (major in German, minor in English).
Further career
After moving to Germany, he did an internship in Koblenz from 1969 to 1971 . She then taught German and English at various grammar schools and secondary schools in Rhineland-Palatinate until 2010 . For more than 30 years she has led Norwegian courses for beginners and advanced learners at the Volkshochschule Koblenz.
Private
She has lived in Koblenz since she married her husband in 1969; the couple has two children.
Translation activity
She has been working as a translator since 1990, initially together with Ingrid Sack, and since 1995 as a freelance and independent translator.
She has translated eight novels by the Norwegian Johannes Heggland into German for the Rosenheim publishing house , including

Åse Birkenheier also translated novellas by Karin Fossum and Eva Huseby, among others . She often writes book reviews for the magazines "Nordis" and "dialog".
Memberships
Since 1984 she has been a member of the German-Norwegian Society. V., Bonn; from 2004 to 2016 she was active on their board.
