German-Norwegian Society

The German-Norwegian Society e. V. (DNG), based in Bonn , was founded in 1982 with the support of the Royal Norwegian Embassy . The association wants to improve relations between Norway and Germany as well as between Germans and Norwegians.

According to the current statutes of May 5, 2009, the company pursues "exclusively and directly non-profit purposes" (Section 1.2). According to § 2, their tasks are to "promote and safeguard cultural and scientific interests between Norwegians and Germans". It strives for "friendly cooperation between all private and public German-Norwegian circles". According to § 8.2, a general meeting takes place once a year. The board (§ 9) is elected every two years and works on a voluntary basis. The DNG is recognized as a non-profit organization. The association's work is largely financed from the members' contributions.

activities

Among other things, the company offers events. Norwegian-oriented festivals are celebrated on the Norwegian national day on May 17th ( grunnlovsdagen ), on St. Hans on June 23rd and at Christmas time ( julebord ). All programs can also be used by non-members. Since 1982 - usually twice a year, in June and December - the magazine "dialog" has appeared as a member magazine with 72 to 84 pages.

Board

According to the Articles of Association, the Executive Board consists of a maximum of five people with equal rights. In addition, up to six assessors can be elected. Bernd Coßmann, Thomas Fechner-Smarsly and Helmut Ilstad have been members of the inner board since the last election in August 2018. Sigrid Klinghammer, Ulrich Obst, Marcel Schmutzler and Monika Steffes-Bocklet act as assessors. The former board members Aase Birkenheier and Eckart Roloff are also active as employees of the magazine "dialog" .

Norwegian-German Society in Norway

The Norwegian-German Society (Norwegian Norsk-Tysk Selskap ) is also a society for the promotion of German-Norwegian relations, but with its seat in Oslo . Inge Lønning , Vice-President of the Norwegian Parliament ( Storting ), was its President until his death on March 24, 2013.
