Inge Lønning (born February 20, 1938 in Fana , Hordaland , † March 24, 2013 in Beitostølen ) was a Norwegian Evangelical Lutheran theologian and conservative politician.

Life

Inge Lønning studied in Oslo and Tübingen (especially with Ernst Käsemann ), received her doctorate in 1971 and became Professor of Dogmatics at the University of Oslo . From 1985 to 1992 he was rector . As a translator and editor of a selected edition of the works of Martin Luther ( Verker i utvalg , 6 vols., 1979–83), he was also involved in the board of trustees of the International Martin Luther Foundation . Since 1985 he has been a member of the Norwegian Academy of Sciences .

He was chairman of the Norwegian European Movement from 1993 to 1995, became vice-chairman of the conservative Høyre party in 1998, member of the Norwegian parliament from 1997 to 2009 and vice-president of the parliament from 2001 to 2005. He was also president of German -Norwegian society .

The Luther College (Decorah, Iowa) and Åbo Akademi recorded Lønning with the honorary doctorate from. In 1985 he received the Federal Cross of Merit with a star and in 2009 the Willy Brandt Prize of the Norwegian-German Willy Brandt Foundation. In 1986 he was appointed commander of the Order of Saint Olav .

His brother, ten years older than him , was the bishop and politician Per Lønning , his son is the metal musician Lars Lønning (* 1971).
