Thomas Agergaard

Thomas Agergaard (born June 23, 1962 in Fensmark ) is a Danish jazz musician ( tenor saxophone , composition).

Agergaard, who was introduced to jazz through his cousin's record collection, began composing as a child. He received private lessons on the saxophone, but is self-taught as a composer . He worked several times with dance companies. In 2002 he led the opening act for concerts in Denmark for the Jazzpar Prize winner ; the following year he served as musical director of Andrew Hill's Jazzpar Octet . Together with Tobias van der Pals and Morten Mogensen, he also produced the first CD with works by the Danish composer Leopold van der Pals .

His list of his compositions includes wind quintets, piano music and music for jazz groups and for chamber orchestras; there are also multimedia installations and compositions for the film. In terms of style, he ranges from electronics to big band music to modern classical music.

Agergaard received the 2001 DJBFA Prize; In 2002 he also received a three-year grant from the Danish National Art Fund.
