Jacob Fischer (born December 1967 in Copenhagen ) is a Danish jazz musician ( guitar ).

Live and act

Jacob Fischer started playing the guitar as a self-taught man at the age of 14 . At the age of 17 he performed at the Copenhagen Jazz Festival . Around the same time, he also won a jazz competition for the Danish daily Berlingske Tidende with a band that included Chris Minh Doky on bass and Nikolaj Hess on piano. This led to a first engagement in the Jazzhus Montmartre in Copenhagen.

In 1992 he became a member of Svend Asmussen's quartet . Since then he has played in numerous ensembles and with the entire Danish jazz elite, including Allan Botschinsky , Jesper Thilo , Finn Ziegler , Bob Rockwell and the DR Big Band . He has also led his own trio (with Hugo Rasmussen on bass and Janus Templeton on drums) and formed duos with guitarist Doug Raney and bassists Hugo Rasmussen and Mads Vinding . He also played with international soloists such as Toots Thielemans , Art Farmer , Lee Konitz , Gary Bartz , John Abercrombie , Scott Hamilton , Adam Nussbaum , Putte Wickman , Chris Potter and Jerry Bergonzi . In 2004 Lars Danielsson brought him to the JazzBaltica Ensemble . He can also be heard on recordings by Cæcilie Norby , Caroline Henderson , Sinn Eeg , Kristin Korb , Christina von Bülow's trio and Kristian Jørgensen's quartet with Monty Alexander .

Prizes and awards

In 1987 Fischer initially received the Sørens Penge (which is reminiscent of the musician Søren Christensen ). In 1994 he was honored with the JASA Prize of the Danish Jazz Critics and in 1996 he received the prestigious Ben Webster Prize , in 1998 the Jazz Prize of the Copenhagen Palæ bar . In 2001, Fischer was awarded the Danish Django d'Or as “Performer of the Year”. In 2003 he was the first jazz musician to receive the Silkeborg Jazz Prize .
