Kristian Jørgensen (born September 18, 1967 in Hillerød ) is a Danish jazz violinist . According to Nordic music , he is one of the best jazz violinists in the world.

Life and effect

Jørgensen, who grew up in a family of musicians, took violin lessons from the age of 8. At the age of 15 he was with pianist Duke Jordan in the recording studio ( Jealousy ). Until 1992 he studied at the Rytmisk Music Conservatory in Copenhagen.

Later he worked with many other musicians such as Kirk Lightsey , Lars Jansson , Severi Pyysalo and Andreas Öberg . He led his Kristian Jørgensen Quartet and is part of the Tango Orkestret , which interprets the works of Astor Piazzolla . He also formed a trio with the American guitarist Paul Banks and the accordionist Thor Backhausen.

Jørgensen has released five albums under his own name, including Meeting Monty with pianist Monty Alexander on Stunt Records . He has also recorded records with the Tango Orkestret and contributed to albums by Dalia Faitelson, Mikael Simpson, Ernesto Snajer / Palle Windfeldt and Donau Swing . He also taught at the Rytmisk Conservatory of Music.

Prizes and awards

Jørgensen received the Sørens Penge in 1983 . In 1993 he was awarded the Ben Webster Prize . In 1998 he received the JASA Prize. With the Tangoorkestret he was honored with the Trommen Culture Prize.
