Allan Botschinsky

Allan Botschinsky (born March 29, 1940 in Copenhagen , Denmark ) is a Danish jazz trumpeter , flugelhorn player , composer , arranger and producer .

Live and act

Botschinsky studied at the Royal Danish Conservatory from 1953 to 1955 and at the Manhattan School of Music in 1963 . From 1955 to 1960 he was a member of the Ib Glindemann Orchestra , worked with Bent Axen (1959) and Bent Jædig as well as with Copenhagen-based or guest musicians such as Kenny Dorham , Dexter Gordon , Thad Jones , Ben Webster and Oscar Pettiford . After years with the Danish Radio Big Band , of which he had been a member since 1964, and touring with Mal Waldron , the European Trumpet Summit and the European Jazz Ensemble , he increasingly moved his field of activity to Germany, settling in Hamburg , where he did his later in 1985 Marion Kaempfert met and played as a soloist in Peter Herbolzheimer's big band Rhythm Combination & Brass . He had a duo with Niels-Henning Ørsted Pedersen . In addition to the brass quartet First Brass with Derek Watkins, as well as Bart and Erik van Lier , he had another formation in the later 1980s and 1990s with musicians such as George Mraz , Victor Lewis , Lars Danielsson , Charles Fambrough and Jeff Hirshfield , with whom he had a series recorded albums for the label MA Music . This label was founded in 1987 by Marion Kaempfert (the daughter of Bert Kaempfert ) and Botschinsky; he still works as arranger and producer for the label. Since Sentiments (1983) Botschinsky has devoted himself more and more to composing works in classical orchestral and chamber music ensembles. For orchestras a. a. the works Dronning Dagmar Patchwork and Turnus . His last works include the series Colors - works for various solo instruments that were inspired by the combination of music and colors.

Awards

In 1963 Botschinsky was named Danish “Jazz Musician of the Year”. In 1983 he received an award for his third stream composition "Sentiments". Danish television portrayed his work in 1984 in the program "The Music of Allan Botschinsky"; in the same year he received the Ben Webster Prize .
