Pernille Bévort (born April 13, 1966 in Lyngby ) is a Danish jazz musician ( tenor , soprano , alto saxophone , flute , composition ).

Live and act

Bévort began to learn the recorder at the age of seven . At the age of 14 she switched to the soprano saxophone; a few years later the tenor saxophone became her main instrument. It was not until she was 19 that she began to be interested in jazz. Between 1989 and 1993 she studied at the Rytmisk Music Conservatory in Copenhagen .

In the following years she appeared with the bands of Ernie Wilkins and Erling Kroner , the Danish Radio Big Band and the Aarhus Jazz Orchestra (initially as Klüver's Big Band ). She has also worked with musicians such as Randy Brecker , Tony Coe , Putte Wickman , Tim Hagans , John Scofield and Richard Bona . In 1996 she founded her own band, with which she has released nine albums so far. At Pori Jazz 2009 she also presented the Copenhagen Jazzy Ladies .

In 2016 she and her group Radio Bévort released the album Which Craft? in front; In 2019 the LP Gopler og andre Urovækkende Fænomener followed . Between 1992 and 2016 she was involved in 22 productions in the field of jazz. As a composer, she has also written for the Copenhagen Art Ensemble .

Prizes and awards

At the 2001 Copenhagen Jazz Festival , Bévort was awarded the Ben Webster Prize . In 2003 she received the JASA award, the association of Danish jazz critics.
