Ole Kock Hansen (born April 19, 1945 in Osager ) is a Danish jazz pianist , composer and orchestra leader. He is one of the central figures of contemporary modern jazz in Denmark.

Live and act

Hansen first played for Finn Savery; he was educated at the Conservatory in Copenhagen . He had an early friendship with Niels-Henning Ørsted Pedersen , with whom he worked again and again. He has been a professional musician since 1965. In 1967 he became a member of the Danish radio jazz groups ; the following year he was appointed pianist in Danmarks Radio's Big Band , whose chief conductor he became in 1986. He also appeared with Iron Office , Etta Cameron and Per Goldschmidt and recorded albums with Thad Jones , Ben Webster , Jesper Thilo , Warne Marsh / Lee Konitz , Palle Mikkelborg and Karin Krog . As an instrumentalist, he was also involved in the recording of the Miles Davis album Aura .

After receiving the Jazzpar Prize to Tommy Flanagan , he arranged his music for a wind sextet in 1993. In 1996 he gave up the leadership of the big band to work as a music producer and arranger . He has also combined jazz with Danish folk music, for example on his album Folkevise (1975). He also worked with the girls' choir from Danmarks Radio . In addition, he continued to play with Niels-Henning Ørsted Pedersen, Etta Cameron and Thomas Fryland. He also works as a music teacher.

Prizes and awards

In 1975 Hansen was named Danish “Jazz Musician of the Year”. In 1986 he received the Ben Webster Prize . In 2007 he was awarded the Danish Django d'Or as “Bandleader of Excellence” .
