Per Bentzon Goldschmidt (born March 11, 1943 in Jægersborg ; † September 17, 2013 in Copenhagen ) was a Danish saxophonist (tenor and baritone saxophonist) of modern jazz as well as a film and television actor.

Career

Per Goldschmidt studied clarinet at the Royal Conservatory of Music in Copenhagen; In 1962 he switched to the tenor saxophone. After 1965 he first played as an amateur musician in various ensembles. In 1967 he played with Niels Jørgen Steen the score for the film Eftermiddagsgæsten , which was followed by further work for film and television. In 1976 Goldschmidt played with the Creme Fraiche Band as well as with the Americans Howard McGhee ( Just Be There ), Idrees Sulieman ( Bird's Grass ) and in the 1980s in Ernie Wilkins Almost Big Band , with whom he also played in 1983 Montreux Jazz Festival performed. In 2000 he continued the band together with Erling Kroner . In 1987 he worked on Horace Parlan's album Little Esther .

In the 1990s Goldschmidt recorded the album Frankly under his own name for Milestone Records , on which the guest musicians Tom Harrell , Niels Lan Doky , Niels-Henning Ørsted Pedersen and Alvin Queen participated; In 1999 the second album Loneliness and Other Ballads was released on the stunt label with Carsten Dahl , Thomas Ofsen and Frands Rifbjerg . In 1997 he appeared at the Jazz Baltica Festival in an ensemble with Tomasz Stańko , Nils Landgren , Nils Wogram , Peter Less and Bugge Wesseltoft .

He also worked as an actor in the Comediehuset in Copenhagen and appeared in several films and TV series, most recently in 2000 in Edderkoppen .

In 2006 he was awarded the Django d'Or (Denmark) as Bandleader of Excellence .
