Frands Rifbjerg (* 1964 ) is a Danish jazz musician (drums, composition).

Career

Rifbjerg, son of the writer Klaus Rifbjerg , studied at Kongelige Danske Music Conservatory with Thad Jones , where he graduated in 1985 with a diploma as a drummer. In 1998 and 1999 he continued his studies with a stay at the Drummers Collective and The New School in New York City .

As a sideman, Rifbjerg worked with musicians such as Clark Terry , Carla Bley , Steve Swallow , Phil Woods , Carsten Dahl , Jesper Thilo , Doug Raney , Horace Parlan , Tomas Franck , Bent Jædig , Thomas Fryland , Hugo Rasmussen , Henrik Bolberg and Uffe Marcussen .

Since 1996 he took u. a. with Bolberg / Marcussen Kvintet and Per Goldschmidt the album Loneliness & Other Ballads , with Jesper Thilo Kvartet and Bülow / Besiakov Kvartet A Primira Vez , with the Aske Jacoby Band Transfer Power , with Søren Kjærgaard the albums Amfebia and Akustica , with the Carsten Dahl Trio released the albums Blue Trane and Will You Make my Soup Hot and Silver and with the Benjamin Koppel Quintet the albums At Large , Double Up, Please and Evergreen Machine . He can also be heard on records with the singer Thulla ; Tom Lord recorded 26 jazz recordings between 1996 and 2016. He accompanies the singer Marie Fisker with his own quartet.

Rifdbjerg was awarded the Bent Jædig Prize in 2009.
