Laila Dalseth (born November 6, 1940 in Bergen ) is a Norwegian jazz singer .

Act

Dalseth began her professional career in 1960 when she moved to Oslo and worked with Kjell Karlsen (from 1961), Egil Kapstad , Frode Thingnæs and Helge Hurums in the 1960s . In 1963 Dalseth's record debut Metropol Jazz (1963) was released. In the following years she also sang in the Stokstad / Jensen Trad. Band (1973-75), with Per Borthen and appeared in 1976 at Teatret Vårt in the piece Havhesten . Since then she has worked with both European and American jazz musicians; on their albums for the label Gemini looked u. a. Terje Venaas , Bucky Pizzarelli , Milt Hinton , Al Cohn , Red Mitchell and Philip Catherine with. She was also involved in productions by her husband Totti Bergh , as well as albums by Arne Domnérus and Bengt Hallberg . During the 1980s and 1990s she appeared at numerous international festivals with Flip Phillips , Major Holley , Roger Kellaway , Frank Capp , Nat Pierce and Per Husby .

Prizes and awards

In 1962 she won the Melodi Grand Prix twice with the two songs Mormors spilledåse (# 5) and Kom sol, kom regn (# 1) . She was awarded the Norwegian Spellemann Prize three times for her achievements and the Gammleng Prize in 1986 in the jazz category. At the Oslo Jazz Festival 1999 she was awarded the Ella Prize . the Norwegian jazz society also honored her with the Buddy Prize .
