Live Maria Roggen (born March 22, 1970 in Oslo ) is a Norwegian jazz singer , songwriter and composer.

Live and act

Roggen comes from a musical family; she is the older sister of the twin sisters Ane Carmen and Ida Roggen (from the Norwegian vocal group Pitsj ). She received violin and singing lessons at the secondary school in Oslo . Then she studied sociology and musicology at the University of Oslo and from 1995 to 1998 jazz at the Trøndelag Conservatory of Music .

Roggen first appeared in the Duo Tu'Ba in 1994 with tuba player Lars Andreas Haug . In 1997 she supported the founding of the band Wibutee , whose albums she also took part in, and from 1998 to 2004 she was the lead singer of the Norwegian jazz band Come Shine . Since 2004 she has been one of the singers and driving forces of the improvising vocal ensemble Trondheim Voices , for which she also composed. Since 2003 she has also performed with her live band ; In 2007 she released a solo record Circuit-Songs , which won the Spellemann Prize in the open class. Roggen worked as a jazz and singing teacher at Sund Folkehøgskole, the Conservatory of Music in Agder and the Trøndelag Conservatory for Music in Trondheim. Since 2012 she has been teaching as professor for jazz singing at the Norwegian Academy of Music , where she was previously an associate professor .

Prizes and awards

With the group Come Shine she received the Spellemann Prize for Jazz in 2002 ; With her Circuit-Songs she won the Spellemann Prize in 2007 in the open class. In 2003 she was awarded the lavish musician award at the Kongsberg Jazz Festival . The following year she received the Gammleng Prize for Jazz. In 2016 she was honored with the Buddy Prize.
