Hilmar Jensson (* 1966 in Reykjavík ) is an Icelandic jazz guitarist.

Live and act

Jensson, who played guitar as a child, studied at the FIH Music School in Iceland from 1982 and then at Berklee College of Music until 1991 . During this time he also took private lessons with Mick Goodrick , Jerry Bergonzi and Hal Crook .

He then returned to Iceland, studying with Joe Lovano in New York from 1993/94 . As a sideman he worked a. a. with Tim Berne , Wadada Leo Smith , Kevin Drumm , Herb Robertson , Trevor Dunn , Greg Bendian , Chris Speed , Briggan Krauss , Jamie Saft , Cuong Vu , Rafael Toral , Carlos Zingaro , Tom Rainey , Ben Perowsky , Per Jörgensen , Eyvind Kang , Arve Henriksen and Ståle Storlokken .

Jensson has been a member of Jim Black's band AlasNoAxis since 1999, and in 2001 he founded the group Tyft in New York with Jim Black and Andrew D'Angelo . He is also a founding member of Kitchen Motors , an Icelandic artist organization that also acts as a record label.
