Scott McLemore

Scott McLemore (born February 1, 1973 in Norfolk (Virginia) ) is an American jazz musician ( drums , composition ) who lives in Reykjavík .

McLemore began playing in a school rock band when he was 16; he toured with the funk band Ant Man Bee since 1990. In the same year he met the trumpeter John D'Earth at a workshop at the University of Virginia , with whom he played in various bands and also performed in the Knitting Factory .

McLemore studied at Old Dominion University from 1992 , before moving to William Paterson College in 1993 , where he met his future wife, the pianist Sunna Gunnlaugs , and received his bachelor's degree in 1997 from John Riley , Vic Juris and Rufus Reid . In 1997 he moved to New York City, where he was not only a member of the Gunnlaugs band, but also played with Michael Kanan , Angelica Sanchez , Russ Lossing , Chris Cheek , George Colligan , John Hébert , Mark Helias and Tim Berne .

He formed his own quartet with Tony Malaby , Ben Monder and Ben Street , which recorded the 2000 album Found Music . A second album Remote Location was created with Sunna Gunnlaugs, Óskar Guðjónsson, Andrés Thor and Róbert Þórhallsson. He is also involved in five albums by Gunnlaugs and recordings by Kerry Politzer and the ASA Trio ( Plays the Music of Thelonious Monk ). In 2015 he recorded the album Broken Cycle with Hilmar Jensson and Angelika Niescier .
