Briggan Krauss

Briggan Krauss is an American musician ( alto saxophone , also baritone saxophone , clarinet ) of the Modern Creative and sound artist. According to Wolf Kampmann , he is one of the busiest saxophonists on the New York jazz scene .

Live and act

Krauss went to high school in Lake Oswego and then studied electronic music and music theory at the Cornish College of the Arts in Seattle . There he worked in the local scene and founded the Trio Babkas with Brad Shepik and Aaron Alexander . He also became a member of Wayne Horvitz's Pig Pen Quartet , with whom he toured internationally. In 1994 he moved to New York City , where he first interpreted the music of Sun Ra with Myth Science and played in the trio of Andrea Parkins . In 1995 he was a founding member ofSex Mob and belongs to the band to this day; He also pursued his own projects: On his album Good Kitty (1996) with Chris Speed and Michael Sarin , he was compositionally based on Horvitz, with whom he and Kenny Wollesen also recorded the critically acclaimed album 300 . In his trio H-alpha he appears with Jim Black and Ikue Mori .

Since 2000 he has devoted himself more to composition and released two albums of electronic music. His octet composition Lensing was premiered in 2002. With Kato Hideki he developed the sound and video installation Zure (2007). He is also involved in numerous productions by Hal Willner and has appeared on recordings by Andrew Drury , Jerry Granelli , Bill Frisell and Satoko Fujii .
