Jerry Granelli

Jerry Granelli (born December 30, 1940 in San Francisco ) is a Canadian jazz and fusion drummer of American origin.

Live and act

Granelli grew up in San Francisco, where he studied with Joe Morello . In the mid-1960s he worked for Vince Guaraldi and as an accompanist for the singer Jon Hendricks and in the Denny Zeitlin trio . Later he played a. a. with Charlie Haden and with Ralph Towner ("City of Eyes", 1990), Nana Simopoulos ("Wings and Air", 1986), Charlie Mariano and Gary Peacock . Granelli, who lives in Halifax, has been a Canadian citizen since 1999 .

In addition to his professorship at the Berlin University of the Arts, Granelli works with his band UFB , consisting of the two guitarists Kai Brückner , Christian Kögel and the bassist Andreas Walter . Their first album “News from the Street” was released on the “vera bra” label in the late 1980s. The band's style is a mixture of blues, funk, rock and jazz improvisation. Granelli also worked with the spoken word and performance artist Rinde Eckert and was involved as a sideman on recordings by Jane Ira Bloom ( Art and Aviation , 1992) and Lee Konitz ( Haiku , 1994). In 2000 he accompanied singer Jay Clayton on her album Brooklyn 2000 .
