Jaga Jazzist is a Norwegian , eight-piece nu jazz band from Tønsberg .
Band history
The formation was founded in 1994 by Lars Horntveth; at this point the majority of the band was not yet of legal age. Their music is primarily characterized by the sound of wind instruments such as saxophone , trumpet , trombone , tuba and bass clarinet . Other instruments are: electric guitar , electric bass , Fender Rhodes , vibraphone as well as effects and synthesizers . Since 2001 her recordings have been released by the Oslo record label Smalltown Supersound , which also sublicenses all publications to Ninja Tune . In 2003 the brass section of Jaga Jazzist recorded the album Motorpsycho + Jaga Jazzist Horns - In The Fishtank together with Motorpsycho . Some members of Jaga Jazzists are also represented in the Norwegian pop band The National Bank , Martin Horntveth plays in the avant metal band Killl . Further projects in the form of the band Shining and the respective solo projects of the brothers Martin and Lars Hornveth will continue to be published.
Occupations

The line-up varied frequently in the band's history, with the number of band members always being ten musicians until 2010; Jaga Jazzist is a nonet for the first time on the 2010 album One-Armed Bandit . After Mathias Eick had left the band in 2014, which in 2015 released album was Starfire by the other eight members recorded.

Jaga Jazzist's music draws influences from various musical genres and brings them together in new ways. In connection with music, however, influences from bands such as Talk Talk , Soft Machine , Erik Satie , John Coltrane , Don Cherry , Aphex Twin , Stereolab , Squarepusher , Isotope 217 and Tortoise are mentioned.
