Style and reception

Concert on the "One Armed Bandit Tour 2011" at Kampnagel , Hamburg

On “One-Armed Bandit” the nonet plays with six guest musicians a jazz rock influenced by Frank Zappa with elements of other styles such as progressive rock and the dance floor .

Christian Steinbrink praised "One-Armed Bandit" in the Nillson Fanzine :

“In the context of big bands trained in jazz and recruiting swing and show bands, Jaga Jazzist have always been in a class of their own. Both live and on their records, their compositions as well as their improvisations were of astonishing complexity and rousing emotionality, everyone who saw or heard them was enthusiastic. (...) The result is nine pieces that, with their demanding, polyrhythmic aesthetics and the clearly varying tempo, ignite like a whole fireworks display in one fell swoop (...). "

The music magazine eclipsed gave the album 8 out of 10, the internet magazine Tonspion 5 out of 6 possible points. Although the majority of the critics emphasize the independence of the album, the musical proximity of the album to Frank Zappa is also mentioned.
