The National Bank is a Norwegian supergroup that has been successful in their home country since 2004.

Band history

The band emerged from a one-off project in 2003. The brothers Lars and Martin Horntveth from the Jaga Jazzist formation were commissioned to contribute “vocal-based” music to the Festspillene i Vestfold . They brought in BigBang bassist Nikolai Eilertsen and keyboardist Morten Qvenild , who had also played jazz with Jaga. For the singing they took the solo successful musician Thomas Dybdahl .

After the two agreed festival appearances, the five musicians stayed together and recorded an album together. It was released in mid-2004 and instantly hit number one on the Norwegian album charts, where it stayed for three weeks, and achieved platinum status . The National Bank also won the 2004 Spellemann Prize in the pop group category.

Despite the great success, it was only one project for the musicians involved in addition to their other activities. In two years there were only about 30 joint appearances. It wasn't until the end of 2007 that the band got new momentum with appearances in Paris and Berlin, and in early 2008 a second album entitled Come on over to the Other Side was released , which reached number 3 in the charts in Norway and was also released internationally. A tour followed with performances in Norway, Denmark, the Netherlands, Belgium, Germany and France. The project has been on hold again since the end of 2008.
