BigBang

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

BigBang is one of the most successful Norwegian rock bands of the 2000s.

Band history

The band was founded in 1992 in Oslo by singer and guitarist Øystein Greni. After the successful skater, who won the European Championships in Antwerp in 1991, had a sporting future as a professional blocked by a knee injury, he turned to music and formed the band BigBang with Christer Engen and Erik Tresselt . Initially, their success was limited. Their self-produced debut album Waxed met with little response in 1995. When Engen joined the punk band Turbonegro in 1997 , BigBang was about to end. In 1999 Tresselt also left the band.

In the line-up of Greni, Olaf Olsen and Nikolai Hængsle Eilertsen, however, the breakthrough came in the same year. At the by: Larm Festival in Stavanger they put on a convincing live performance, which earned them a record deal with the major label Warner . The EP Girl in Oslo brought them the highest position in the Norwegian single charts in spring 2000 with number 3 and stayed in the top 20 for 13 weeks. The following album, Clouds Rolling By , the third band album, climbed to number 2 on the album Top 40 .

They underlined their outstanding reputation as a live band in 2003 with the live album Radio Radio TV Sleep , which was not only their first number one album , but is also considered the most successful live album in Norway and has meanwhile achieved gold status. Although the bass player changed several times from 2004, the success of BigBang continued unabated. Every two years, new albums were released, all of which made it to the top of the chart.

In 2008, Øystein Greni and colleagues also ventured to the USA. A compilation of their previous repertoire was produced as an album under the title From Acid to Zen for the US market and they toured the States from Los Angeles.

Since 2009 BigBang has been playing together again in the successful formation of the early 2000s with Greni, Olsen and Eilertsen.
