Hluhluwe Umfolozi Park

Hluhluwe is a city in northeastern KwaZulu-Natal , South Africa . It is located between the iSimangaliso Wetland Park (formerly: Greater St. Lucia Wetland Park ) and the Hluhluwe Umfolozi Park . The name is isiZulu and refers to the thorny creepers - called umHluhluwe - that grew in large quantities along the river. In 2011, Hluhluwe had 3,830 inhabitants. There is cattle farming in the city's catchment area , and timber , sugar cane and pineapples are grown. Up to 95 percent of South African pineapple production comes from the area.

Culture

The area, which extends north of the Tugela to the southern Lebombo Mountains , belonged to the homeland of the Zulu . You can learn a lot about the cultural history of the people in the village. It is possible to watch dances or the traditional building of beehives.

Various boat trips are offered in Hluhluwe, for example mokoro rides and kayak safaris on Lake St. Lucia . Hippos, crocodiles, birds and other animals can be observed.

There are many riding trails. The area is also suitable for hiking.
