Erlend Fredrik Skomsvoll (born May 12, 1969 in Bærum ) is a Norwegian jazz musician ( piano , keyboards , accordion , tuba , composition , arrangement ) who leads his own band and performs with Madrugada, Kaizers Orchestra , Nils Petter Molvær , Chick Corea and Pat Metheny worked together.

Live and act

Skomsvoll studied at the Norges Musikkhøgskole in Oslo and from 1994 to 1998 in the jazz program of the Trondheim Music Conservatory . During his time in Trondheim he played with Wibutee (with Håkon Kornstad and the singer Live Maria Roggen ) and began working with the Come Shine group around the same singer in 1998 , with whom he recorded four albums. In 2000 he went to the Midt-norsk jazzsenter des Norsk Kulturråd and worked there as an instrumentalist, conductor and arranger with the Trondheim Jazz Orchestra , which gave concerts with Pat Metheny, the New York Voices and Chick Corea during this time . For the Trondheim Jazz Orchestra he also wrote pieces on the album What If? A Counterfactual Fairytale (2009).

Skomsvoll also worked with the Konsen Big Band , Marit Sandvik , Kirsti Huke and Morten Abel . He wrote a composition with Mark Adderley for the Oslo Filharmoniske Orkester (2004). In 2005 he worked with Madrugada and the Bodø Sinfonietta in a production for Nordland Musikkfestuke and with the Trondheim Musikkteater in Production Spor .

In 1996 he founded his Skomsvoll Orkester , in 2004 Skomsork (with Eirik Hegdal , Thomas T. Dahl , Ole Marius Sandberg and Thomas Strønen ) for which he writes all pieces. In 2008 he led the Skoms quartet with Ola Kvernberg , Ole Morten Vågan and Børge Fjordheim , with whom he released a CD and DVD.

Prizes and awards

In 2001 Skomsvoll was the Norwegian candidate for the newly established European Jazz Prize . Together with Come Shine , he received the Spellemann Prize in the jazz category for jazz for the album Do Do That Voodoo in 2002 . In 2003 he received the Deuns Lindemanpris due to the vote of Christian Eggen , the winner of the Lindeman Prize 2003. At the Oslo Jazz Festival 2013 he was awarded the Ella Prize . In 2014 he was honored with the Buddy Prize of the Norwegian Jazz Federation and received a Spellemann Prize in the classical category for the album Holberg Variations .
