Bendik Hofseth (born October 19, 1962 in Oslo ) is a Norwegian jazz saxophonist and composer.

Live and act

Hofseth played in various Norwegian bands since 1980, including 1980 to 1982 in Erik Wøllo's quintet , 1982 in Lakki Patey's band , 1983 to 1984 in Jon Eberson's group , 1984 to 1985 in the rhythm and blues group Heavy Gentlemen and next to it with Pål Thowsen .

He then went to the United States for six years , where he worked with the Steps Ahead and Full Circle groups . He has also performed with Norwegian musicians such as the group Ab und zu , Kenneth Sivertsen and Arild Andersen and the German saxophonist Michael Villmow .

After returning to Norway in 1991, he founded his own band, with which he recorded several CDs, mostly with his own compositions, and worked with musicians such as John McLaughlin , D'Gary , Hariprasad Chaurasia , Mikhail Alperin , Django Bates , Andy Summers , Tony Levin , Rickie Lee Jones , Helge Iberg , Andrea Marcelli , Øystein Sevåg , Ingeborg Hungnes and Terje Venaas , Jacob Young , Ketil Bjørnstad , Bertine Zetlitz , Jan Bang , Sigvart Dagsland , Espen Beranek Holm and Bjørn Eidsvåg . He has also performed with symphony orchestras such as the Oslo Filharmoniske Orkester , the Filharmonie i Bergen and the Trondheim Symfoniorkester and recorded Bjørn Kruse's saxophone concerto .

Hofseth also recorded pop, entertainment and film music (with Reidar Skår, among others ) and composed for theater, ballet and film. He is chairman of NOPA (Norsk vorening for komponister og tekstforfattere), the Norwegian association of composers and lyricists.
