Kenneth Sivertsen (born January 16, 1961 in Mosterhamn , Bømlo municipality ( Norway ), † December 24, 2006 in Bergen ) was a Norwegian guitarist , songwriter , jazz singer , composer and humorist .

Childhood and youth

Sivertsen made his debut on the bass guitar at a Christmas party when he was 8 years old. A few years later he founded the group "One Two Three" with some friends. After graduating from school, he went to the adult education center in Voss from 1977 to 1979 , a stay that meant a lot for his further musical development. Several of the guitar pieces created at that time were released in 1988 on the Spør Vinden record .

Sivertsen was mostly self-taught, but briefly received guitar lessons from Torbjørn Wiberg and Arild Hansson and composition lessons from Magnar Åm.

1980s

In 1981 he wrote his first symphony, Håp , which was premiered three years later by the Oslo Philharmonic Orchestra . In 1983 Sivertsen released his first record, Einsam Flygar , which was produced by Erik Hillestad and published by Kirkelig Kulturverksted.

Beyond the 80s, Sivertsen became known through various television and radio appearances and extensive tours, including with Jan Eggum. In 1984 he composed his second symphony, Timeglaset og Morgonstjerna , and the jazz record Amalgamation followed the following year . In 1988, the Himmelsyn work was named Work of the Year by the Association of Norwegian Popular Authors .

1990s

Sivertsen eventually became known as a versatile artist and worked with famous American jazz musicians such as Michael Brecker , Mike Mainieri , Tony Levin and Bob Mintzer , among others . In the US, Remembering North (1993) and One Day In October (1998) were published and received rave reviews from the foreign press.

From 1993 to 1998 he lived and worked with Herborg Kråkevik. This collaboration resulted in the successful performance of Cabaret and Kråkevik's plate Mi Haugtussa .

On several of his records Sivertsen set poems by his sister Solfrid Sivertsen, Birger Røksund, Halldis Moren Vesaas and Aslaug Vaa, among others . He also worked partly with the poet Jon Fosse . In addition to his own records, Sivertsen has also worked on editions by Sigvart Dagsland, Anne Karin Kaasa, Johannes Kleppevik and Aftenlandet, among others.

2000s

On February 27, 2005 , Kenneth Sivertsen fell on the quay in Haugesund as a result of an epilepsy attack and suffered a cerebral hemorrhage at the same time . Because of the large amount of blood in the head, parts of the skull had to be removed. The parts were temporarily frozen and later replanted, but Sivertsen began bleeding again and had to endure further operations.

In November and December 2006 four concerts took place in his honor in Bømlo. The concert series was called Draumespor after one of his records and showed the breadth of his career as a composer.

Kenneth Sivertsen died on December 24, 2006, at the age of 45, in Haukeland University Hospital in Bergen . The funeral took place on December 29, 2006 in Bømlo.
