Ellen Andrea Wang (born October 10, 1986 in Gjøvik ) is a Norwegian jazz musician who plays, sings and composes double bass . She first became known both with her band Pixel and in collaboration with pianist Dag Arnesen and can be classified musically between jazz, pop and singing-songwriting .

Live and act

Wang first began to learn the violin and switched to bass at the age of 16. She attended Norges musikkhøgskole , where she studied with Bjørn Kjellemyr . Since 2010 she has been part of Dag Arnesen's trio; she also plays at SynKoke . Since 2013 she has directed her Ellen Andrea Wang Trio and the band Pixel , which includes drummer Jon Audun Baar, trumpeter Jonas Kilmork Vemøy and saxophonist Harald Lassen and with whom she plays indie jazz .

She also worked with the bands of Ivar Kolve , belongs to Amherst and, since 2011, to White Willow and can be heard on albums by Lena Nymark and Kristin Fjellseth . At the jazz festival of Ystad she entered in 2015 with the Sisters in Jazz to Nicole Johänntgen on. In 2017 she performed in Berlin with Giorgi Mikadze and Nils Landgren .

Prizes and awards

Wang received the Talent Award at at DølaJazz in 2011 and was named Statkraft Young Star at the Oslo Jazz Festival in 2012. In 2013 she and Pixel belonged to the Young Nordic Jazz Comets. In 2015 she was honored with the prestigious Kongsberg Jazz Award at the Kongsberg Jazz Festival .
