Dorota Piotrowska
Dorota Piotrowska (* 1984 in Lubin ) is a Polish jazz musician ( drums , composition ).

Piotrowska first studied at the University of Wrocław , where she received her Bachelor of Arts in French Philology in 2006 . Already during her language studies she played and toured with a Cuban ensemble. She decided to study at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam , where she was introduced to the music of Ralph Peterson . She took lessons from Peterson, who then became her mentor, in Groningen. In 2010 she enrolled in an exchange program at Long Island University in Brooklyn; she then moved to the New School , where she earned a Bachelor of Arts in Jazz Performance with a focus on drums in 2012. Her interest in international politics led her to take up a political science master’s degree, which she completed in 2015 at the Colin Powell School for Civic and Global Leadership at the City College of New York .
The artist has lived in New York since 2010, where she performed in the classical field at Carnegie Hall with Bob Chilcott and at Lincoln Center Avery Fisher Hall with Will Todd . In jazz, she played with musicians such as George Garzone , Sam Newsome , Stacy Dillard , Lafayette Harris , Benito Gonzalez, Anthony Wonsey , Greg Lewis , Carlo DeRosa and the Curtis Brothers .
In 2013 Piotrowska performed with her band and Jeremy Pelt at the Jazz nad Odra Festival . In the following years she gave concerts with her band at the Adi Jazz Festival in Łódź, the Ethno Jazz Festival in Wrocław and other places. In 2015 she started a collaboration with the Polish soul singer Ewa Uryga . In November 2016 they recorded a live album on Polish radio. Together with Mark Soskin and Luques Curtis the band has performed all over Poland and played at the Komeda Jazz Festival and the Jazz Od Nowa Festival . She also performed with Sisters in jazz .
