The Río Alao is a 35 km long right tributary of the Río Chambo in the province of Chimborazo in central Ecuador . In the upper reaches, the river is also called the Río Yuyigug .

River course

The Río Alao rises 10 km south of the El Altar volcano in the Cordillera Real . The headwaters are at an altitude of around 4000  m . The Río Alao initially flows 15 km south through the mountains. He then turns to the west and later to the west-northwest. The Río Alao finally flows south of the village of Pungalá , almost 20 km south-southeast of the city of Riobamba , into the Río Chambo, which flows north.

Hydrology

The Río Alao drains an area of ​​204 km² on the western flank of the Cordillera Real. The mean discharge of the Río Alao about 10 km above the mouth is 10.7 m³ / s.
