Izabella Effenberg (* 1977 ) is a Polish jazz musician ( vibraphone , also array- mbira , crotales , composition) and karate fighter .

Live and act

Effenberg first studied classical drums for five years in Poland at the music academies in Poznan and Gdansk, up to a diploma. In 2007 she began studying jazz with Bill Molenhof and in 2012 completed the master's degree in Jazz Mallets with Roland Neffe at the Nuremberg University of Music .

As a vibraphonist she worked a. a. with Maike Hilbig , Béatrice Kahl , Tony Lakatos , Peter Fulda (CD Henselt heute 2015), Nippy Noya , Leszek Zadlo , Thilo Wolf , Norbert Nagel , Christian Diener , Steffen Schorn , Christoph Huber, Wernerreiber, Yelena Jurayeva , Lindy Huppertsberg , Sebastian Strempel or Jan Lundgren . In addition, in recent years she has increasingly begun composing and arranging for various ensembles, initially primarily for the A-Band Trio, which she led with the marimba player and percussionist Pawel Czubatka, her quintet and a tentet. Her composition "Teges" was in the final of the 2014 international jazz composition competition at the Katowice Jazz Festival. Jochen Pfister and Pawel Czubatka are part of their current trio .

Together with Volker Heuken , she has organized the vibraphone festival "Vibraphonissimo" in Nuremberg / Fürth since 2014.

Success as a karate fighter

In Shōtōkankarate she acquired the black Dan . As a member of the Polish Karate Sports Federation, she successfully participated in numerous Polish and European competitions: She was Polish champion eight times, received a silver medal at the 1999 European Championships and a gold medal at the European Cup in Balaton, Hungary.

Awards and honors as a musician

During his studies in Poland and Germany, Effenberg already received prizes at various competitions (Bruno Rother Jazz Competition in Nuremberg, Pinneberg Jazz Festival, Fama Festival in Poland, Mozart Association in Nuremberg).

In 2018 she received the City of Nuremberg Prize .
