Roland Neffe (born December 13, 1970 in Graz ) is an Austrian jazz musician ( vibraphone , marimba , percussion ), composer and interpreter of new music . He has lived in Berlin since 1995 .

Live and act

Roland Neffe studied classical percussion and jazz at the Graz University of Music from 1987 to 1992, and jazz vibraphone with Bill Molenhof at the Nuremberg Conservatory from 1992 to 1994 . In 1994 and 1995 he continued his studies at Berklee College of Music with Gary Burton and Ed Saindon . In 1996/97 he studied with David Friedman at the Berlin University of the Arts .

As a vibraphonist and marimba player, he deals with improvised music and jazz of all kinds. Projects he initiated are the trio Vibes Beyond (with Achim Tang and Reinhardt Winkler, who released two albums on JazzHausMusik and Unit Records ) and the quartet Moodra (with Nathalie Claude , Oliver Saar, Johannes Gunkel). Neffe is a percussionist member of Ensemble Mosaik and Studio Percussion . In the field of new music he recorded works by Harald Muenz , Luís Antunes Pena and Sarah Nemtsov .

With Christian Kögel and Marc Muellbauer he formed the Wood & Steel Trio , which also released an album with Michael Schiefel . He can also be heard on albums by Andrej Hermlin , Marc Muellbauer, Peter Fulda , Sido and Christian Lillinger ( Open Form for Society ).

Neffe has also been teaching jazz vibraphone at the Nuremberg University of Music since 2010 .
