Efrat Alony

Efrat Alony ( Hebrew אפרת אלוני* 17th August 1975 in Haifa , the daughter of Iraqi - Jewish immigrants) is primarily acting in Germany and especially as in recent years, jazz singer active Israeli singer and singing teacher .

Life

Alony graduated from high school in 1993 in Haifa, did her military service as a social worker from 1994 to 1995 and studied composition , arrangement , jazz and classical singing in Israel ( Rimon school of jazz and contemporary music , 1995 to 1997) and in the USA ( Berklee College of Music in Boston , 1996) and finally in Germany ( University of Music “Hanns Eisler” in Berlin , 1997 to 2002). She took lessons from Joe Lovano , Bob Brookmeyer and Steve Gray, among others .

She subsequently worked as a guest vocalist and composer and had appearances in Germany and Amsterdam (with the Jazz Orchestra of the Concertgebouw ). She also worked as a musical director and vocal trainer for various theater productions (including in collaboration with Robert Wilson ) as well as a singing teacher (including in Berlin , Potsdam , Rostock , Osnabrück and Graz ) and choir director. Since 2009 she has been teaching jazz singing at the University of the Arts in Bern .

In 1998 she founded the Efrat Alony Quartet with pianist Mark Reinke, bassist Stefan Weeke and drummer Kay Lübke. So far she has been on tour in Germany, Austria (2006), Switzerland (2007), Ireland (2002), Italy , Belgium and Slovenia . She had individual engagements in many other countries. In 2005 the Efrat Alony Quartet became alony with a new line-up (with Mark Reinke and strings, later also Christian Thomé ).

Efrat Alony (vocals, keys, electronics, toys) has been playing with Oliver Leicht (clarinet, electronics) and Frank Wingold (guitar) in the Trio Efrat Alony since 2011 . The album with this line-up A Kit For Mending Thoughts was released in November 2012. She also appears in a duo with Childo Thomás and can be heard on Sebastian Böhlens Born under this soft wind and on Izabella Effenberg's album Cuéntame .

Awards

In 2006 she received the Jazz Performance Prize of the Karl Hofer Society Berlin (2006) and in 2008 the Jazz Promotion Prize of the Berlin Senate (2008). In 2009 she was awarded the International Jazz Prize of the Nürnberger Nachrichten (2009) and in 2014 the GEMA Foundation's Music Author's Prize in the jazz category.
