Stefan Weeke

Stefan Weeke (* 1971 in Celle ) is a German jazz bassist.

On behalf of the Goethe Institute, Weeke undertook concert tours through Ghana, Mexico, Cuba and various Asian countries with the Trio Triocolor (with Jens Thomas and Björn Lücker ), which had already won first prize at the European Jazz Contest in Brussels in 1994. As a sideman he worked among others with Christian von der Goltz , Herb Ellis , David Liebman , Carla Bley , Charlie Mariano , Joe Lovano and Philip Catherine .

Weeke leads his own trio with the guitarist Christian Kögel and the drummer Eric Schaefer . He is also a member of the Maria Baptist trio with Heinrich Köbberling . After touring with Gitte Hænning in 2001 and 2002 , he recorded the album Jazz with her, Sebastian Weiss and Thomas Alkier .

In 2005 he released the album Frau Anders & Herr Gleich with his trio . In 2006 Weeke performed with the Greek singer Jannis Zotos . With the classical singer Immo Schröder he realized a crossover project based on Schubert's winter trip.

In the Ensemble Ranin, founded in 2006 (with Nasser Kilada , Christian Kögel and Martin Klingenberg ), Egyptian folk music is combined with the European tradition of improvisation. In the same year Dan Gottshall , Rolf Römer , Tino Derado , Kevin Burrell , Ernst Bier and Weeke founded the MetroSonic Ensemble in Berlin . In 2007 he went on a tour with the Meike Goosmann Quintet (with Jeanfrançois Prins , Julia Hülsmann and Uli Moritz ), with which the album Portrait was created. He also belonged to the group alony of Efrat Alony .
