Tino Derado

Tino Derado (* around 1970 in Munich ) is a German jazz musician ( piano , accordion ) who is open to world music influences.

Derado grew up in an academic family; his mother is the biochemist Thea Derado , his sister the filmmaker Nadya Derado . He began taking classical piano lessons at the age of six and was involved in jazz and ethnic music as a teenager. He studied in the USA at Berklee College of Music and at the New School for Music . There he became a member of the jazz and Latin scene; he played concerts with Gary Burton , Peter Erskine , Bob Moses , Randy Brecker , Bill Evans , Paul Winter , Dave Liebman , Jimmy Cliff , Frank Gambale , Jamey Haddad , Chiara Civello , Richard Bona , Matt Garrison , Joe Chambers , Papo Vázquez , Orlando Marin , Andy Gonzalez , Adam Nussbaum and Fred Hersch . In 2003 he presented his first album, Luminescence, under his own name, which was followed by five more albums. He also worked with Nils Landgren and Jojo Mayer .

Since returning to Germany, he has worked with Andy Middleton , Till Brönner , Rebekka Bakken , Esther Kaiser , Diego Piñera and the NDR Bigband . He also recorded albums with Jens Winther , Rigmor Gustafsson , Heinrich Köbberling and the Trio Silk ( Passion, Pain & Poetry ).

Derado has been a lecturer at the Berlin University of the Arts since 2009 . In 2014 he accepted a professorship for jazz piano at the Hanover University of Music, Drama and Media .
