Jeanfrançois Prins

Jeanfrançois Prins (born February 18, 1967 in Brussels ) is a Belgian jazz musician (guitar, composition, arrangements) and music producer .

Live and act

Prins began playing the guitar as an autodidact at the age of 17 . Two years later he led his own band. After completing his training as a sound engineer, he studied in the jazz class of the Conservatoire Royal de Musique in Brussels.

Prins toured several times with Lee Konitz and released six albums with their own groups. Compositions by Prins such as “New York Stories” have also been recorded by Toots Thielemans , Judy Niemack , Kenny Werner , Michel Herr / Jack van Poll , the WDR Big Band Cologne and the Danish Radio Big Band . He also worked with Kenny Wheeler , Gary Bartz , Randy Brecker , Bill Evans , Kirk Lightsey , Gerard Presencer , Eddie Gomez , Jay Anderson , Peter Herbolzheimer , John Ruocco , Bruno Castellucci , Ivan Paduart , Victor Lewis , Adam Nussbaum , Billy Hart , Gene Jackson , Andy Middleton , Jiggs Whigham , Bob Dorough , Jay Clayton , Sheila Jordan , Quincy Jones and Mal Waldron . He also accompanied Erwin Schrott , Sacha Distel , Henri Salvador and Patti Austin .

He can also be heard on albums by Richard Rousselet, Michel Herr, Shigeko Suzuki, Sören Fischer , Darmon Meader , Meike Goosmann , Ulli Jünemann , Ernst-Ludwig Petrowsky , the Berlin Jazz Orchestra and the RIAS Big Band Berlin .

Prins married the singer Judy Niemack in 1998, with whom he lived in Berlin, where he also taught at music academies. In 1999, his career was portrayed in a documentary for the television station RTBF .

Prizes and awards

In 1991, as a graduate student, he was awarded first prize at the Brussels Conservatory. He also received the Golden Sax from the Association of Belgian Jazz Journalists .
