Joris Teepe

Joris Teepe (* 1962 ) is a Dutch jazz musician ( double bass , composition ) and university lecturer , who temporarily lived in the United States .

Live and act

Teepe was active in the Dutch jazz scene from the 1980s; first recordings were made in 1990 with the Bram Wynands Trio ( Easy to Love ). In 1992 he moved to New York City, where he took lessons from Ron Carter . In the following years he led a joint quintet with Don Braden (also Tom Harrell , Cyrus Chestnut and Carl Allen ), with whom he recorded the album Pay As You Earn in 1994 . In the field of jazz he was involved in 39 recording sessions between 1990 and 2016, including a. with Deborah Brown , Antonio Ciacca , Fay Claassen , Maximilian Geller , Barend Middelhoff , Shingo Okudaira , Lewis Porter , Jeanfrançois Prins and Jason Seizer .

Since 2001 he has been part of the Rashied Ali quintet for nine years . He also worked with musicians such as Benny Golson , Sonny Fortune , Billy Hart and Randy Brecker . Teepe recorded a number of albums under his own name. He also worked as a composer, music producer and university lecturer; he heads the jazz department at the Prins Claus Conservatory in Groningen and was previously a professor at Queens College .

In 2004 Joris Teepe was nominated for the Bird Award in the category Artist deserving against recognition at the North Sea Jazz Festival .
